Since they were very young, André Fortunato and Teresa Pestana have had careers in the property sector, as they always wanted. Over the last eight years, they have worked in partnership at RE/MAX Madis in Oeiras, where they have earned their well-deserved place in the market. The foundations of success It was in 2015 that André and Teresa joined RE/MAX Madis. The consultant had previously worked for another chain. Since they started working for the same brand, they have chosen to establish a partnership and teamwork has always favoured the results for both of them. A career as property consultants has always been a dream for both of them and their desire to evolve has translated into building a solid, cohesive team that is increasingly experienced and influential in the local market. The Oeiras area is their main area of operation, although they do reach out to other neighbouring towns. According to André Fortunato, the start-up wasn't easy and there are some essential characteristics that a consultant must have in order to be successful in this business. The main one is persistence, which has been decisive in getting the duo to where they are today: ‘In the beginning we were two kids, nobody took us seriously, we got into property at a very young age,’ recalls Teresa Pestana. Nonetheless, determined and motivated, they soon gained a large number of clients who were satisfied with their work. Originally from Madeira and Alentejo respectively, Teresa and André started from scratch to create a network of contacts, without knowing anyone in Lisbon, and all their success is the result of hard work. Working in the property market The desire to help people make their dreams come true is the driving force behind this duo. ‘It's important that clients are fully satisfied and informed about the whole process of buying or selling a house,’ emphasises the interviewee. At the moment, the consultants guarantee that they haven't felt any downturn in the market. Even with the current national and international situation, ‘demand still outstrips supply and so the market hasn't fallen,’ says André. However, fluctuating interest rates mean that they have to make a greater effort to categorise customers, as their purchasing power fluctuates and they have to adapt the service they receive to their financial capacity. With the Covid-19 pandemic, demand has shifted towards properties with terraces or balconies, increasingly far from city centres. There are still plenty of investors in Lisbon, most of them Portuguese. Passionate about what they do, André and Teresa promise to continue working in real estate, an area of activity in which ‘every day is different’. They believe that the future should involve sharing with colleagues from other estate agents, as this is beneficial for all parties. The interviewees give our readers their perspective on the current market situation, always ready to answer questions and help potential clients with some useful tips. Based on RE/MAX's excellent structure, the consultants are always available to ‘solve any problems and create happy clients’, they say. ‘It's always good to have a good brand accompanying us, we had the full support of the structure to make everything happen in the best possible way,’ explains André Fortunato. RE/MAX provides numerous tools, particularly in terms of training, technology and support in bureaucratic and financial matters. So, armed with all the necessary weapons and with plenty of experience, the interviewees analyse the current property market: ‘We're in a good time to sell; that's what we always say to clients who still don't know what to do with the property they have. Right now, we suggest selling. You get a good deal. We predict that at some point the market may slow down, which could happen at any time, and it will be a good time to buy. We don't know how long this period favourable to good sales will last. Even so, it's still a good time to buy,’ reveals André. In their presentation dossier, the duo includes some tips for clients putting a house up for sale, which include, among other things, creating a good environment in which to receive visits from potential buyers. To this end, the consultants are committed to doing an excellent job, where the creation of good photographs determines a good first impression: ‘Buyers’ enquiries are a mirror of our work, anything can make the difference between them choosing to work with us or not,’ they say.
